Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Peter Kažimír continues his working visit in Ottawa, Canada, where he met senior representatives of the Canadian government. During their negotiations, they focused on Slovakia’s presidency of the OECD, potential cooperation in the field of innovation in financial services (FinTech, blockchain), as well as on topics of protectionism, global free trade and fair taxation of multinational corporations.
Modern technologies are increasingly part of everyday life. “Canada can serve as an inspiration for Slovakia as to how things can be done, especially in the field of the innovation and digitisation of the economy,” Finance Minister Peter Kažimír said at the end of the visit.
“Therefore, we decided to deepen our cooperation in the field of fintech and blockchain. After all, Canada is among the world’s top five countries best prepared for the digital revolution,” Kažimír added.
The meeting with Diversification of International Business Minister James Gordon Carr was devoted to the preparation of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) in Paris in May, where Minister Carr will chair the digitisation section.
Minister Kažimír also met Associate Deputy Finance Minister Rob Stewart, responsible for the G7 and G20 agenda. Together they held talks on topics regarding the fair taxation of multinational corporations, global labour migration, the regulation of fintechs, and also data collection by public institutions for the purpose of improved and better targeted regulation of the banking sector.
During his visit, Minister Kažimír also met Michelle Rempel, Canadian MP and chair of the parliamentary group responsible for Slovak-Canadian friendship.
