Juraj Valachy, an economist and long-time acclaimed analyst, will become the new head of the Institute of Financial Policy (IFP) from 15 October. He will replace the current director Eduard Hagar.
Juraj Valachy becomes the 8th director of IFP. Its priority is to build on quality analytical work, which is extremely important for the economy and public finances.
"I am very happy to work at the Institute of Financial Policy. It is an exceptional place full of exceptional people who, through their work, help the government to make well-informed decisions. Together, we want to positively influence the discussion and direction of public policies in Slovakia, "said the future director of IFP, Juraj Valachy.
Its top priorities will include work to improve the sustainability of public finances.
"Continuous improvement of their condition should bring the introduction of the concept of expenditure limits, which is also the main challenge for the entire institute. We will work together to improve the presentation of our work externally, but especially to respond professionally to all the challenges that lie ahead, "emphasized Juraj Valachy.
Juraj Valachy is returning to the Ministry of Finance after years, as he has worked at IFP in the past. He studied statistics and probability at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Bratislava. He completed his doctoral studies in economics at CERGE-EI at Charles University in Prague. Since 2006 he has worked in the banking field as an economic analyst. He is one of the recognized experts in macroeconomics and econometrics.
"Juraj is an excellent economist with extensive experience. With his ideas and energy, he will definitely contribute to the further development of the Institute," said the outgoing director Eduard Hagara. He has worked at the Ministry of Finance since 2012. He started as a senior analyst at the Institute of Financial Policy. After a year, he took over responsibility for the Department of Tax and Fiscal Analysis. After three years in the International Monetary Fund, in 2019 he became the director of the Institute of Financial Policy.
The Ministry of Finance thanks Eduard Hagar for his many years of work and wishes him much success in his future career.
