EU funds in 2007

Last update: 26.02.2008 06:00

The third year of implementation of structural funds is behind us, and the coming year will be important, because of the ending of projects financed under the 2004 – 2006 programming period, and the start of operational programmes under the new programming period.

For the majority of the programming documents, 2007 was a successful year – the total allocation designated for this year has been drawn and, moreover, the drawing of funds designated for 2008 has commenced.

These successful programs are: the Sectoral Operational Programme Agriculture and Rural Development, where 76.81% of the 2004 – 2006 commitment has been drawn so far, which indicates that the agricultural sector plans to draw all allocated funds before the end of 2008; the Community initiative Interreg III A Slovak Republic – Czech Republic, under the competence of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, where 71.75% of the 2004 – 2006 commitment has been drawn so far; and the Operational Programme Basic Infrastructure under the competence of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, which has already drawn 64.71% of the 2004 – 2006 commitment. Since the beginning of the implementation of structural funds in 2004, more than SKK 25 billion has been paid to project implementers under all programme documents.

From the total commitment of EUR 1,175,645,673 (approximately SKK 39.9 billion) designated for the first programming period 2004 – 2006, an amount of EUR 424,295,409 (approximately SKK 14.4 billion, or 36.81% of the commitment) remains to be drawn by Slovakia.

At present, the relevant sectors are preparing themselves for the successful implementation of projects eligible for the drawing of funds under the 2007 – 2013 programming period and some of them have already announced first calls for project proposals.

The Slovak Republic has so far received almost SKK 8.5 billion under the new programming period, in the form of an advanced payment to start up projects which will soon be selected and implemented.
