Slovakia's extraordinary success

The negotiations of the Council of Ministers of Finance in Luxembourg bore fruit. The European Commission pledged to allow Slovakia to use billions of euros from cohesion policy funds for 2014-2020 that remained unused for energy crisis aid.
“Such aid will allow us to lead households and companies in Slovakia through the energy crisis with a strong helping hand of the state. The total aid to people will thus amount to billions of euros,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Igor Matovič after the Ecofin Council meeting.
“It is a huge success for Slovakia. We were the only ones who asked for it, and we are more or less the only ones who will be helped by this change. Many thanks also go to Prime Minister Edo Heger for his personal intervention,” the Minister added.
Slovakia will at the same time receive EUR 366.9 million from the RepowerEU programme to reduce its energy dependence on Russian fossil fuels and support renewable sources.
