While GDP growth of around 3% YOY has been reported so far for 2021, our economic performance is actually much better. The year-on-year growth of the Slovak economy has reached almost 5% (4.9%). The Slovak Statistical Office has changed the figures for 2021 on the basis of reports that arrive with a delay from businesses.

Even though our economy was cast into the stormy waters between the pandemic years 2020 and 2022, the latest figures from the statistics office show that we have weathered these years better than we had previously thought.

What does this mean in practice? Despite the pandemic and the various restrictions that have been enacted, our economy has managed to produce more goods and services in 2021 than the year before.

In simpler terms, compared to 2020, Slovakia was economically better off in 2021 by around 5%.
